Mustang Week 2K12Mustang Week. Sound familiar? Well it should. It is THE event of the summer that us Mustang fans look forward to every year. The week is jam packed with A LOT of Mustangs, cruise-ins, meet n greets, car shows and racing for everyone to enjoy. As soon as the week starts coming to an end, plans are already being made for the next years event.
I made my treck down to Myrtle Beach a little earlier then the rest of the guys at Pro Dyno in order to cover all of this years events! Follow along as I recap my week!
Monday 7/16Though Mustang Week doesn't officially kick off until Tuesday's Meet n Greet, there was quite a crowd at Hard Rock Cafe at Broadway at the Beach Monday night. The Mustang club I am in, Mayhem Mustangs, parked in an empty parking lot to go eat some dinner, and when we came out we were surprised to see the lot jam packed with about 60 or so Mustangs! We had no idea we would start this impromptu cruise! It was a very informal gathering, with folks sitting around and enjoying the evening, meeting new friends, and checking out their stangs.
Tuesday 7/17The OFFICIAL kick-off of Mustang Week 2012 started with the Meet n Greet which, for 2012, moved venues from Planet Hollywood, to The Palace Theater across the street. This was a much needed change, due to this event getting as big as it has. There was plenty of parking for all, filling both parking lots on opposite sides of the theater. This year fans were in for at treat, as Vaughn Gittin Jr made his MW debut by signing autographs and meeting fans, all while gearing up to unveil the 2013 Mustang RTR!
Wednesday 7/18]
The events for Wednesday included auto cross, race track fun runs, and the famous burnout contest! But before any of the events kicked off, Vaughn Gittin Jr again, treated fans to a drift demo in his #25 Falken Tire drift Mustang! If you have never seen VGJ drift, it is an experience like no other! I myself have never seen drifting, and I was blown away from what I saw, talk about an adrenaline rush just from watching! Following his drift, Vaughn again was on hand to meet fans and sign his autograph to 5.0 Mustang hats as well as RTR posters. I had the awesome experience of meeting Vaughn and getting my picture taken with him. Vaughn himself is a customer of Pro Dyno, having his former drift Mustang tuned by us, so it was great to meet with him!
Whether you were trying to set a good track time or try your hand at the slaloms at the auto cross track, both events were going on at the same time. I was able to do a ride along with one of my club members during the fun runs, and that in itself was an adrenaline rush flying down the straight aways and swerving into the turns! I will definitely be taking part in this event next year!
To close out the days activities, the famous burnout contest took place to see who had what it took to get the crowd going and who could burn the most rubber! There were a lot of great contestants, and even a few who blew their motors, but the winner this year, in his 01 Saleen S281 took home the prize with the crowd getting behind him after overheating during his time on the track.
Thursday 7/19Thursday started out with a cruise-in at Hooters, followed by a cruise to Darlington Dragway for a night of drag racing! The rest of the Pro Dyno crew was on hand at Darlington with our mobile dyno to begin our long weekend of dyno-tuning your Mustangs!
Chuck Hicks' Pro Dyno built and tuned 07 GT500 ran a very, very impressive 9.74, all while spinning through 1st. And not to mention it was 100*+ that day at the track! If you did not witness the "Monster" going down the track, you missed out on something special!
Friday 7/20The annual Mustang Week Car show at Myrtle Beach Mall registration doesn't open until 9am, but long before then customers were lining up to get on the list to see what kind of power their stangs would put down! From 8am until almost midnight, Pro Dyno was staying busy pulling cars, as well as tuning cars for customers, selling performance products, as well as Pro Dyno gear!
I was able to get away for a few minutes to get some pictures of the show, as well as checking up on my own Mustang that was in the show. But, back to work, we had customers to attend to and we did not leave until the last customer was served!
Saturday 7/21Mustang Week finishes off the week with the southeasts largest Mustang/SVT Cruise-In at the Myrtle Beach Mall. Running on only a few hours of sleep, the morning was a little rough, but once the customers started showing up, we were ready to engage with them and who them what Pro Dyno was all about!
Again Pro Dyno was out at the mall non-stop all day until all of our customers had been served. We pulled the last car off our dyno around 1am!
Over a 3 day period, we were able to tune 60+ Mustangs! Without our customers and our awesome crew, Mustang Week would not have been possible. And for that we thank you all!
Sunday 7/22With Mustang Week 2012 officially over, it was time for the long, dreadful ride back to Charlotte...with anticipation for next years Mustang Week at hand...
A Few of the Cars we Dyno TunedLast but not least we'd like to thank all the staff members that make Mustang Week possible every year! Thank you for all your hard work for putting on a great event that so many look forward to participating in every year! We are grateful to be a part of such a huge event! See y'all in 2013!
